Corrupts sucking the lifeblood out of the country: HC

The corrupts are sucking the lifeblood out of the country, the High Court said while hearing a bail plea in an embezzlement case.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam made the remarks on Sunday (Dec 15).
The court said that the funds in the bank belong to the people and the laundered money must be recovered at any cost. “If needed, the assets of the accused should be sold to recover the money. They are sucking the lifeblood out of the country. They can’t be forgiven.”
On Dec 23, 2018, the Anti Corruption Commission submitted a charge sheet against seven people accusing them of embezzling over Tk 210 million from Dhaka Bank.
According to the case dossiers, 26 bills were submitted to Dhaka Bank’s Dhannmondi 32 no. Later the accused withdrew nearly Tk 269 million against 17 bills and only paid back a little over Tk 56 million.
