The ruling Awami League has re-elected Sheikh Hasina as its president and Obaidul Quader as the general secretary for the next three years.
Election Commissioner Yusuf Hossain Humayun has announced the leadership at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Saturday (Dec 21).
Earlier, party chief Hasina has dissolved the previous committee and handed over her official position to the election commissioner.
Presidium member Abdul Matin Khasru proposed the prime minister’s name for the post of the president which was supported by his colleague at the policymaking Presidium Pijush Kanti Bhattacharya.
There have been a lot of speculations ahead of the council over the role of general secretary. However, Obaidul Quader was re-elected after proposed and supported by Joint General Secretaries Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman respectively.
